Technology has gained a huge attention and importance especially in pandemic. Almost every sector has started to use technology for their work since the beginning of the pandemic. It has also taken a significant role in education. Technology had been used before the pandemic. However, the use of technology has been adopted by almost everyone in that period. Therefore, this led the teachers, instructors, schools, and universities to use more technology and more technological tool in lessons such as web 2.0 tools. As private school English teachers, we have been encouraged to use technological tools in our lessons as much as possible. It was a fast transition and most of us weren’t ready for it. However, our school organized teacher training sessions to deal with it. It was helpful and fruitful. However, after learning about technology acceptance models (TAM) in technology management in organizations lesson, I have had the opportunity to find out and have a deeper understanding about technology adaptation in organizations and schools.
Technology acceptance model framework which was developed by Fred Davis and Richard Bagozzi basically indicates that without ever interacting with a piece of technology, people make a cognitive judgment and create a bias. It means they are bringing in particular attitudes and looking at certain characteristics of the technology, such as simplicity of use and utility, to see if they can make it work for them. It means that ease of use and usefulness are two important aspects which technology users look for. This gave me the idea to integrate technology to my institute based on TAM models. As it is mentioned above, several teacher training models were organized to introduce web 2.0 tools and give the idea of how they can be integrated to the lessons. However, after learning about TAM models I realized that taking ease of use and usefulness into consideration would be a great kind of adaption. If I worked as an educational technologist or technology manager, I would definitely organize teacher training sessions to find out the teachers attitudes and bias to the new technology because it is important to adapt the technology according to these models.
Choosing the tools and the technological equipments, hardware, and software without taking the main components of technology acceptance model inevitably will give undesirable results. Therefore, it would be a great way to find out the attitudes and bias of the people who will use the technology. It is mentioned that the ease of use is one important component of TAM model. A piece of technology should be easy to use and people should find it easily usable. In that situation, as a technologist or manager, I would like to create an environment which gives the users the opportunity to find out their own technological tools. Institutions sometimes may choose some tools which are totally hard to use and hard to understand the adaption to the lessons so that it would be a huge burden for the teacher to use them in the lessons because the teachers already have a lot of workload. That is why easiness is an important aspect we should take into consideration and the institutions must use technology acceptance models to conduct this process correctly.
Moreover, the usefulness is the other component which must be taken into consideration. As the manager of technology, I would conduct a detailed research to find out that which tool, hardware, software are needed, useful, and also effective for the lessons in my institution. It is quite common that most of the time institutions encourage teachers to use technology and web tools without organizing any teacher training or without taking the usefulness into consideration. There are some thought which indicates if an institution uses a lot of technological equipment and tools that means the learning process goes perfectly. This is an illusion and according to the technology acceptance models, the usefulness is one of the important components and the institutions shouldn’t ignore it.
To sum up, I have come up with this idea that technological adaptations must be followed according to the technology acceptance models in educational institutions and the two important components must be taken into consideration. The attitudes and bias of the users must be found out via some teacher training sessions or surveys. The users must be informed about the new technology, why they should use them, how they can use them, and why it is important to use them so if I would conduct the process, I would definitely begin the process by informing the teacher about the process. Therefore, they can be aware of the whole process. Furthermore, all of the technological tools must be chosen by taking ease of use and usefulness into consideration.
